MARINE COATINGS
Sustainable Solutions for Marine Industry
Marine coatings have applications mostly for corrosion protection due to high humidity and susceptibility to varying temperatures. Since early 1900s, the focus was primarily to tackle such challenges that caused such material degradation in structures exposed to sub sea temperatures lower than 0 °C. Epoxies were first commercialized in 1946, which provided excellent corrosion resistance with significant ability to cure over a wide range of temperatures.
Today, epoxy coatings are widely used across the world as primers to improve the adhesion of marine paints especially on metal surfaces where corrosion resistance is important. Ark developed advanced Phenalkamine curing agents that have revolutionized the protective coating industry, with ability to bond with epoxy resins to create a strong thermoset system effective against material degradation and unique inherent ability to cure at temperatures less than 0 °C.
